About Me

FIRST AND FOREMOST, MY APPROACH IS INTERPERSONAL

Cheryl Cooper Counseling - About Me

My Approach

It is essential to quickly establish an environment of trust where we can work collaboratively to achieve your goals – initially, that may be just to have a supportive “ear” to begin healing and establish hope. There are many great models and techniques therapists draw from depending on the client; however, research (and my experience) shows that one of the best ways to ensure your desired outcome is my ability to truly connect with you on a personal level. The relationship we form sets the foundation for your success. When you are confident I am in your corner, and my office is a safe place to be, we’re on the path to progress.

I am very relationship-oriented in both my personal and professional life. Professionally, I’ve come to realize that most issues people seek counseling for ultimately lead back to relationships in one way or another. Both past and present relationships affect us. I draw on Contextual and Systems Theory in my work with clients. These approaches recognize the impact that our families, workplaces, neighborhoods, and other communities have on us.

As we work together, my initial focus will be on getting to know you, your needs, and what you hope to achieve. We’ll explore your unique strengths and create a positive plan and approach that empowers you to use these abilities to meet your goals.

As a life-long learner and former educator, I may also introduce certain academic resources and tools to help you better understand your situation. Using a range of resources, I am able to teach my clients certain skills and techniques to cope, heal and facilitate change.

As you consider me as a potential counselor, I also invite you to learn more about my education and experience.
